I hail from Minnesota, where I graduated from the University of Minnesota: Twin Cities (Go Gophers!) in 2015 with a Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering: Neural
Engineering (magna cum laude).
Currently, I am out in sunny Santa Barbara pursuing my PhD in Dynamical Neuroscience and working in the labs of Greg Ashby and Miguel Eckstein studying the neural systems behind human category learning and vision. For a more details, check out my Current Research page!
In my spare time, I enjoy reading, hiking, dancing (West Coast Swing, Ballroom, and recently Ballet), surfing, tennis, and general exploring.
I have had the opportunity to do research with a lot of great people! From my first research experience as a Biomedical Engineering undergraduate with Matthew Johnson at the University of Minnesota working on a neurosurgical navigation package to a summer working with Andrew Schwartz at the University of Pittsburgh working on robotic arm control and on to graduate school, I have worked with some amazing researchers and learned a lot from them! While taking classes and tutoring at a community college my junior and senior years of high school, I met a lot of dedicated, talented, hardworking people. Unfortunately, the community college environment often doesn't introduce students to research opportunities and therefore many never get involved. Through programs such as Condor Techs here at UCSB, I seek to increase community college student access to research. I also work to recruit incoming freshmen to research through the SIMS program.
I also volunteer as an answerer for the UCSB ScienceLine program, where I write answers to scientific research questions from local teachers and students at K-12 schools.

Starting in July of 2016 I have been serving as the Vice President of Budget and Finance for UCSB's Graduate Student Association to aid in the development of the graduate student community here at UCSB. I have enjoyed the position so much that I ran and was re-elected for 2017-2018, 2018-2019, and now my fourth (and final) year of 2019-2020. Here is to another year of community building!
